SkillsFuture Credit vs course fee funding vs the free AI subscription
Updated
Three different kinds of support can come up when you sign up for a SkillsFuture AI course: SkillsFuture Credit, course fee funding (including the Mid-Career Enhanced Subsidy) and the free AI subscription. This guide explains each one using only what the official MySkillsFuture pages state.
AI Course Tracker SG is an independent site. Check the official pages linked below before you apply.

SkillsFuture Credit
SkillsFuture Credit helps Singaporeans offset course fees for eligible courses. There are two tiers.
Opening SkillsFuture Credit (Base Tier)
- Amount: $500.
- Who: All Singapore Citizens aged 25 and above.
- What for: All courses listed on the MySkillsFuture portal.
- Expiry: Does not expire.
It can be used on top of existing SkillsFuture course fee subsidies.
SkillsFuture Credit (Mid-Career)
- Amount: $4,000.
- Who: Singapore Citizens aged 40 and above.
- What for: Selected courses. It can be used to offset out-of-pocket course fees for selected courses that have better employability outcomes. The course directory and course detail page on MySkillsFuture display the relevant label for these courses.
- Expiry: Does not expire.
The official page lists five categories of eligible courses:
- Institute of Higher Learning (IHL) full qualifications and shorter modules that stack to a full qualification
- MOE-subsidised full qualifications from the University of the Arts Singapore and Arts Institutions
- SkillsFuture Career Transition Programmes (SCTP)
- Courses aligned to training requirements in Progressive Wage Model (PWM) sectors
- Workplace Literacy and Numeracy courses
How to use your Credit
MySkillsFuture says to log in with Singpass to check your balance, browse eligible courses, and submit your claim online before the course start date.
Course fee funding
Baseline Course Fee Funding
If you are eligible for course fee funding, you only need to pay the nett course fee, which is the full course fee after the course fee funding. To receive Course Fee Funding, you may enrol directly with SWDA's Registered Training Providers delivering SWDA-funded courses.
The official pages used for this guide do not set out who qualifies for baseline funding or the baseline rates, so we do not state them here. To see what applies to you, log in via Singpass on MySkillsFuture to see the estimated course fees applicable to you.
SkillsFuture Mid-Career Enhanced Subsidy (MCES)
- Who: All Singapore Citizens aged 40 and above.
- Condition: You must qualify for the MOE/SWDA baseline Course Fee Funding.
- What it gives: Additional subsidies to encourage mid-career Singaporeans to upskill and reskill.
For eligible Singapore Citizens aged 40 and above, the official page sets out the support by type of course:
| Type of course (as described by MySkillsFuture) | Funding support |
|---|---|
| SWDA-funded, Tier 1: courses that deliver emerging skills or have direct impact on employability | Up to 90% of course fees |
| SWDA-funded, Tier 2: courses offering skills demanded by employers or industries, supporting general upskilling and reskilling | Up to 70% of course fees |
| MOE-subsidised full-time and part-time courses from Nitec to postgraduate level at the autonomous universities (NUS, NTU, SMU, SUTD, SIT and SUSS), polytechnics, Institute of Technical Education, LASALLE College of the Arts, Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts and National Institute of Early Childhood Development (NIEC) | At least 90% of programme cost |
For the MOE-subsidised row, the page notes that only selected Postgraduate by Coursework programmes are MOE-subsidised, and asks you to check with your preferred institution. Course fees may be subject to GST.
The free AI subscription
Singapore Citizens aged 18 and above can redeem a one-time free 6-month AI subscription after attending an eligible AI course that ends on 16 Sep 2026 or later. Eligible courses carry the 'Free AI sub' label on MySkillsFuture, and you can redeem only one subscription, regardless of how many eligible courses you attend.
The official page describes the subscription as something you redeem after attending the course. It does not describe it as a course fee subsidy, and it does not say how it interacts with SkillsFuture Credit or course fee funding. Full details are in our guide to the SkillsFuture free AI subscription.
How they fit together
Based on the official pages:
- Start with the full course fee.
- Course fee funding (baseline, plus MCES if you are eligible) brings this down to the nett course fee.
- SkillsFuture Credit can be used on top of other government course subsidies. The Opening Credit works for all courses on MySkillsFuture; the Mid-Career Credit only for selected courses.
- The free AI subscription is redeemed after you attend a course with the 'Free AI sub' label. The official page does not link it to course fees.
The fees on AI Course Tracker SG are full fees recorded from MySkillsFuture. Your nett fee appears on MySkillsFuture before you pay. Compare courses in our directory, or see free and cheapest SkillsFuture AI courses.
